BUILDING ACTIVITY.
NEW PLYMOUTH RETURNS. . A good month considering the money shortage and the building “'scare,” was the way in which the New Plymouth borough building inspector summarised last month’s activity in the building trade. Permits to the value of £14,000 were issued during the month, returning feee amounting to £54 10s Gd. Tn .July, 1921, the value of the permits totalled £17,500, which is regarded as an exceptionally good return. An examination of last month’s business shows that the permits issued included a garage, a grocer's shop, extensive additions to the .premises of Mr. C. C. Wand, draper, Devon Street, and 12 new houses. The inspector added that he anticipated that the building activity would tinue brisk and he expected to be issuing permits for several fairly substantial amounts in the near future.
