P.O. SAVINGS BANK.

EXCESS OF WITHDRAWALS. NEW PLYMOUTH FIGURES. A return dealing with the transactions of the Post Office Savings Bank for the year ended March 31, 1922, shows that the withdrawals for the year exceeded the deposits by £1,110,234. In the eight postal districts of the North Island the deposits totalled £18,495,022, and the withdrawals £19,265,462, showing an excess of withdrawals over deposits of £770,440. At only one postal district in the North Island, namely,- at Hamilton, did the deposits exceed the withdrawals. In the New Plymouth district the deposits totalled £1,078,38 J and the withdrawals £1,193,751, showing an excess of withdrawals of £115,317. The largest decrease was in the Auckland district, Wellington coming next, but New Plymouth suffered more than either Auckland or Wellington, considering the volume of business in the several districts. The number of accounts for New Plymouth was 25,323, and the total at credit £1,644,587, an average of £65 per account.
