WAITARA.
j (From Our Own Correspondent.) i The death occurred, on, Thursday, of Mr. William Craig Lawrence at the age ; of 75 years. The son of the late Mr. i Burton Charles Lawrence, he arrived ' with his family from the Old Country , by the ship "Joseph Fletcher” in 1853. ■ When the Maori war broke out the fath- | er joined up with the volunteers to j guard the settlers’ homes, and the son in the person of William, anxious also to do his duty, took the part of drummer boy, and acted as such throughout the period, of unrest. Mr. Lawrence displayed the qualities of a worthy citizen, and though he took no active part on local bodies, he kept in close tooeh with all progressive public movements. He leaves a wife, three sons and two daughters, and to them will be extended in their bereavement sympathy from a wide circle.
