It is announced that President Harding is confident the railway strike will end early next week, the President having worked out a compromise which neither side, it is believed, will dare reject. The only definite statement regarding the plan is that it does not contemplate separate agreements between individual railways and the employees. It will be submitted to the executives on Tuesday, and to the unions on Wednesday. New York, July 28. The violence of the railway strike is increasing ell over the country. A guard was killed at San Bernardino, California. At Concord, New Hampshire, troops fought the strikers, but there were no casualties, though numerous shots were fired. Several workers attacked stables at Chicago. At Charlton, lowa, a striker was shot dead by a guard. Several negro strikebreakers were wounded by strikers in an armed attack at Macon, Georgia.
