INTER-ISLAND MATCH/ WIN FOR THE SOUTH, By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Nelson, July 29. The Inter-Island hockey match was played this afternoon, in splendid weather. There was an attendance of about a thousand, and after a fast, interesting game. South won by three goals to one. In the South team, Cassels and H. Whitwell replaced Wells and C. Whitwell, and Teward replaced Nicholls in the North team. North attacked strongly from the initial bully and scored within four minutes, Heaphy sending in a brilliant shot. South swept down field, resulting in Dee finding the net shortly afterwards, whilst Bell also scored for the South. There was no further score m the first spell. The second spell saw hard play, and just before the call of time Jellyman scored. South gave a very fine exhibition and showed clever stick work. SATURDAY’S MATCHES. The following are the results of the hockey matches in the Northern Division played on Saturday: High School Old Girls 2 v. Technical B 1 ; Technical Old Girls 9 v. High School B 0; High School A, a bye.
