SOLUTION FOR RETRENCHMENT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. In reference to the possibility of further retrenchment jn the P. and T. service the association’s officers have suggested to Ihe Postmaster-General not to replace officers who resign or leave and to let this wastage effect a reduction of staff. It is estimated that last year 600 voluntarily left, and it is urged that if recruiting was stopped for six months the present surplus, stated to be about 280, would disappear.
