The Board of Trade has decided not to interfere with the living wage in .rural districts till the reconsideration o f the general living wage on October S. HEAVY RAINFALL. Sydney. July 24. Torrential rains have been recorded in the north-east of New South Wales, and floods are threatened in many district*?. Splendid ■soaking rains are reported in . the wheat belt, and exceptionally heavy downpours in the metropolitan area. There ore no signs of the abatement of the rain. Sydney Heads recorded a gale with squalls at 80 miles an hour. The storm caused considerable flooding and damage in the low-lying suburbs. OPPOSED. Sydney. July *25. A stormy conference of union secretaries and officers considered the Labor Council's ‘‘go-slow” scheme. The secretary of the Labor Council subsequently stated that the conference had decided that every possible means should be adopted to prevent a reduction of wages and an increase of hours. He added that the- “go-slow” scheme was only the forerunner of what was coming. The Labor Council’s “go-slow” proposals are meeting with considerable opposition. Already several unions have adopted a resolution declining to endorse them.
