Driven from one place to another the rebels are falling back on Cork, hotly pursued by General O’Dutfy’s forces, which are now within striking distance of the city. The rebels in the west are ilso retreating before a steady and well planned advance. Business has been fully resumed in Waterford and Limerick, but the country surrounding the latter town is disturbed. and is infected with roving raiding bands of rebels, who are billeting themselves in farmhouses. In Dublin armed raiders shot dead two men and critically wounded a third, who attempted to* prevent their looting ( a public house in the vicinity of Phoenix Park. The retreating Irish rebels are making pursuit difficult by blowing up bridges and blocking roads to Cork. The rebel leaders are having great trouble in preventing their followers, who are tired of rebellion, from leaving the country.
