ELECTRIC POWER EXTENSION

SUB-STATION AT INGLEWOOD. FURTHER STEP TAKEN. The question of supplying electric power to the borough of Inglewood from the New Plymouth hydro-electric works was moved a step further at last night’s meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council, when the borough electrical engineer (Mr. R. H. Bartley) submitted a plan showing the suggested design for the Inglewood sub-station. In a covering letter Mr. Bartley stated that the idea was to have one building which would accommodate both Inglewood and themselves. Both parts would be operated separately and would be divided by an expanded metal partition, the object being to have greater air space and better ventilation, with consequent lower temperatures for the transformers, etc. This would be an advantage for Inglewood, as it was unlikely that the New Plymouth borough would require to have transformers in the building unless it was to feed low tension currents back to New Plymouth. The provision, however, would be there if required. He suggested that the building be erected in concrete, or concrete blocks, or even in brick. On. the question of site, he would prefer that the sub-station be erected within the. Inglewood borough boundary, and failing that, that arrangements be made with the Inglewood County Council for it to be erected on the roadside adjacent to the bridge near the bacon factory. He said that an expression of opinion from the Inglewood Borough Council on the matter would be helpful. The time was getting near when they must get on with the work. The building could be erected in New Plymouth complete for approximately £l7O or . £lB0 — probably less —and as soon as a decision was arrived at he would prepare specifications and obtain prices from Inglewood builders.

The Mayor moved that the letter be sent to the Inglewood Borough Council .with an intimation that the borough hydro-electric committee would be prepared to confer with them, and this -action, was decided on.
