HEAVY FINES INFLICTED. IMPRISONMENT FOLLOWS REPETITION. By Telegraph,— Press Assn.—Copyright. Received July 24, 9.5 p.m. ' Sydney, July 24. -the case of the Graziers’ Union against the Australian Workers’ Union and Henry Boote (editor of The Worker), John Barnes and Arthur Blakeley (officials of the Workers’ I nion) has concluded. The Magistrate convicted and fined the Australian Workers Union £3OO, and Boote, Barnes and Blakeley £lOO each and directed that they should not repeat the offence under pain of imprisonment. [lt was alleged the accused encouraged persons bound by an award, under the Arbitration Act, to refuse to accept employment. Counsel for the Graziers’ Union emphasised the seriousness of the charge, stating that when an organisation such as the Australian Workers’ Union determined to flout the law a grave situation arose. It was not only a question between employer and employee, but involved the whole country.]
