AMERICAN WOOL TARIFF. LOWER RATE EXPECTED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Washington, July 22. During a bitter debate on the tariff schedule for wool. Senator Walsh declared that the 33 per cent, duty on scoured wool would ultimately cost the consumers in the United States 200 million dollars. Senator Smoot, replying, said the duty was necessary if the American wool industry was to be given ‘the protection It needed to meet ruinous foreign competition. It is expected the rate will be lowered before the Senate adopts the schedule. AUSTRALIAN WOOL SALES. Melbourne, July 24. A meeting of the Wool Appeal Board agreed that, auctions in connection with the 1922-23 selling season should commence at Brisbane on September 18. AUCKLAND SHARE MARKET. Auckland, Last Night.
