BURNING ACCIDENT.

CHILD’S DEATH AT PATEA. A distressing burning accident occurred at Patea at an early hour on Sunday, at the residence of Mr. R, Fowler (borough foreman), when his five-year-old daughter was severely burned, necessitating her removal to the hospital, where she died yesterday morning. Mr. Fowler’s son (aged 15) had lighted ' the fire about 7 a.m., and the little girl was sitting warming herself, when somehow her flannelette nightdress caught fire and in a moment she was a mass, of flames. Hearing her cries, Mr. Fowler, who was in an adjoining room, rushed out, and with great presence of mind wrapped the child in an overcoat and smothered the flames, but by this time she was terribly burned.
