COMMUNITY CLUB.

WORK IN NEW PLYMOUTH. A general meeting of the New Plymouth Community Club, which has for its object the welfare oh the social side of Territorials and Senior Cadets, was the Coronation Hall on Thursday afternoon. There were about a dozen ladies present, and Mrs. C. H. Weston, the president of the club, gave a brief resume of the objects of the club and the work that had already been performed. The boys liked it. and the ladies who had carried it on from the start needed help, and that was the primary object of the meeting. Mrs. C. H. Burgess stated that the position had been discussed, and they had come to the conclusion that about eighteen hostesses would be required, two to act each week. Their experience had shown that two supervisors and four helpers were required. The hostesses, she thought, should do their own buying, handing over from week to week the proceeds to those in charge for the following week. A list showing when the different members of the committee would take charge would be prepared, while the quantity of supplies to be ordered had been ascertained. They stood in great need of a kind of an organising secretary. Mrs. Standish had been acting since the inception of the movement and it was hoped that she would be able to continue. The ladies present indicated their willingness to help, .and the names of some others who could not attend the meeting were also handed in. Mrs. Burgess’ suggestion regarding appointing hostesses was adopted, each hostess to obtain her own helpers. Mrs. Burgess was elected president of the ladies’ committee, and Mrs. A. R. Standish organising secretary. The following is the committee: Mesdames Burgess. Standish, C. H. Weston. Le May. Waterston. A. W. Webster. Neal. Brodie, Day. Ewing, McDiarmid, D. K. Morrison and Campbell, and Misses Roughton, Sole and Rush.
