The All Blacks, who are to visit Australia, met Wairarapa at Carterton this afternoon. The ground was greasy after rain overnight and light showers this morning. The attendance was about 4000. The teams were:— All Blacks.—Bell (full-back) ; Steele (captain), Baddeley, Ford (three-quarters) ; Fitzgerald, M. Nicholls ' (five-eighths) : Mathieson (half) ; J. Donald (wing) ; Whyte, Sowthe, Cuppies, Masters, Richardson, O’Brien, WilWairarapa.—E. B. Booth (full-back) ; Carson, Provan, R. Booth (three-quarters) : R. Jury, Juno (five-eighths) ; F. Booth (half) ; Feast (wing) ; Donald, Desmond (captain), Bacon, Devine, Knowles, Willoughby,. Stunnell. The game opened briskly, Wairarapa immediately pressing, and from a rebound of a defensive kick R. Donald scored and F. Booth converted. The All Blacks rushed play into Wairara.pa, territory, where Bacon got off-side and gave Nicholls a chance to goal, but he failed. Wairarapa then rushed plaj’ to the All Blacks' ground, where a pass to Carson was caught on the toe, and by fast following up Carson scored. F. Booth’s kick hit the bar. Play continued fast, Wairarapa having the best of .a. hard game. Two minutes before half-time Booth (full-back) caime up to participate in a dashing rush. Carson missed a pass, and Ford rushed through, ball at toe, and carried play right to the Wairarapa line, where he was tackled, but Richardson picked up and scored. Nicholls again failed. The spell ended:— Wairarapa 8 All Blacks 3 The second half opened with the All Blacks aggressive, but attack after attack was staved off by Wairarapa’s tackling. A mark' gave Mathieson a chance to goal, but he failed. E. Booth marked a long kick, but his kick at goal was charged down. Then Sythe scored -hd Nicholls failed to convert: Wairarapa 8, All Blacks 6. Wairarapa rushed play into the AH Blacks’ territory, and pretty passing between R. Booth .•■nd Juno ended in the latter scoring in the corner. Knowles failed to con-

vert. Wairarapa. 11. All Blacks 6. At this stage A. Donald was hurt. There followed extraordinary play, Fitzgerald marking off the toe under the Wairarapa goal three consecutive times. The first two kicks were charged down and the third was punted high, but a timely mark by Booth averted danger, the return being taken by Jury, who found the line. The All Blacks pressed strenuously, and Wairarapa were forced. A free kick was awarded the All Blacks in front of the goal, and Nicholls added three points. Wairarapa 11, All Blacks 9. With two minutes to go a loose rush carried play to the Wairarapa line, whore J. Donald picked up and scored. Steele failed to convert. The final score was:— All Blacks 12 Wairarapa 11 BENEFIT MATCH TO-DAY NEWTON KING’S STAFFS. A football match that should create a good •deal df interest in New Plymouth and surrounding districts is to be played at Pukekura Park this afternoon at 3 o’clock between teams representing Messrs. Newton King’s. Ltd., New Plymouth staff and the combined staffs of the Stratford, Inglewood and Kaponga branches of that firm’s business. Strong teams have been selected, and as the proceeds of the match are to be devoted to the Sports Ground Committee’s funds the support of the public is confidently' looked for. Spectators may be sure of seeing a good game, and they will have the additional satisfaction of knowing they are helping in the improvement of the Sports Ground.
