CANTERBURY MARKETS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. Perennial and Italian ryegrass continue firm and to-day there was some inquiry for cowgrass. From 3s 8d to 4s. for perennial and 3s 7d to 3s lOd for Italian at country stations, and lOd toi lid for cowgrass are average quotations for good seed. Potatoes are about the same, and some business has been done between merchants at the equivalent of £4 10s at country stations. Greater quantities are now going forth. The Wanaka, which took a good consignment a fortnight ago, is due to leave to-night and the Opthi a few days’ hence. Opinion is very much divided as to whether the official figures of yields will mean a surplus or a bare sufficiency until the new crops come in. AUCKLAND SHAKE MARKET. Auckland, Last Night. THE HOME MARKETS. HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. The High Commissioner cables under date July 15:— BUTTER. Danish continues in large supply, and there is very little improvement in demand, with the result that values have declined further. Present quotations are : New Zealand.—July 15, 212 s to 218 s per cwt. (Is 10%d to Is ll*/4d per lb.). July 8, 220 s to 228 s per cwt. (Is ll%d to 2s o%d per lb.). July 1, 22Ss to 230 s per cwt. Spot supplies of mutton are heavy and market continues weak with prices slightly lower. Lamb market remains firm and demand is good, spot supplies small. Tendency slightly easier for ex-ship sales. Only small supply New Zealand beef available. Chilled supplies very heavy at lower prices.
