COUNCIL BY-ELECTION.
STRIKE SUPPORTER BEATEN. . By Telegraph —Press Association. , Wellington, Last Night. The result o-f the municipal by-elec-tion caused by the death of Or. Underwood was: A. W. Parton (citizens’ candidate) 5752; J. Glover (Labor) 4103; Patrick Cavanagh, 211. There was a small poll, but in view Of the candidates’ attitude regarding the decision of the tramwaymen to strike. Mr. Parton being against and Mr. Glover supporting the men’s action, more than usual interest was taken in the election. Mr. Cavanagh, whose candidature was treated as a joke, loses his deposit.
