LOSS OF THE FRANCE.
VESSEL’S POSITION. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Noumea, July 18. The barque France is lying on a coral reef 60 miles north of Noumea, and she is considered lost.. She is insured for 6,000,000 francs. Details show the captain saw the reefs too late and the vessel stranded with all sails set. She was travelling at a good speed. The crew numbering 64, including a LtJew Zealander, stood by till the morning, when they took to the boats. They had much difficulty in negotiating the coral reefs before reaching the shore without mishap.
