S.O.S. CALL.
FIRE ON A STEAMER. OUTBREAK UNDER CONTROL. By Telegraph-—Press Association. Wellington, July 17. The Secretary of the General Post Office received a message from the officer in charge of the Wellington wireless station at 4.34 a.m. that the s.s. Ruapehu advised this station that she had received a S.OJS. cell from the s.s. Southgate, latitude 42.25, longitude 145.50, course N 64 The nature of the trouble is unknown. The mesaage stated the Southgate’s signals were fading and it was unable to read anything further. The approximate distance of the Ruapehu from the Southgate was 800 miles. The Southgate is bound for Calcahuna, Chili, from Sydney and she was off the Three Kings on the night of July 3. THIE LATEST NEWS. 'REPORT OF “ALL WELL.” Wellington, Last Night. The Secretary of the General Post Office announces the receipt to-night by radio, Wellington, of the following message from the steamer Southgate, via Chatham Island, timed 9.10 p.m.: “Made a distress call at 4.4 p.m., Greenwich mean time, yesterday. Cargo and bunkers were on fire, but now the fire is under control and all is well now. At noon our position was approximately x latitude 42.25 south and longitude 145.50 west.”
