SECOND ROUND MATCHES. AUSTRALIA BEAT CZECHQSLOVAKIA. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, July 14. In the second round of the Davis Cup Australia, met Czecho-Slovakia. Patterson beat Rohrer, 6—l, 6—3, 3—6, 6—2. Anderson beat Ardelt, 7 —5, 6—4, 6—4. Owing to rain the Australians consented to meet the Czechs on hard courts. The matches were played simultaneously. Patterson easily outclassed Rohrer whose win in the third set was due to Patterson easing up. Ardelt offered a better fight. He is a good back line driver and a sporting fighter. Received July 16 5.5 p.m. London, July 45. Patterson beat Ardelt 6—3, 6 —2, 2—6, Anderson beat Rohrer 4—6, 6—4, 6—3, . 6—o. Patterson and Wertheim beat Ardelt and Rohrer 9—7, 6—o, 6—3. Received July 16, 5.5 p.m. Melbourne, July 10. The secretary of the Tennis Association, referring to a rumor that Hawkes will be sent direct to America to play in the Davis Cup, said it was highly improbable any other player would be sent abroad to replace O’Hara Wood. He saw no reason why Anderson and Patterson should not represent Australia both in the singles and doubles. Wertheim, who is now in America, would be available if required. SPAIN BEATS INDIA. FOUR MATCHES TO ONE. Received July 16, 5.5 p.m. London, July 15. In the Davis Cup contest Degomar (Spain) beat A. H. Fyzee (India) 6—l, 6—3, 3—6, 6—3. Alonzo beat A. H. Fyzee 6—3, 6—4, o—6, 6—4. Spain won the four single matches. In the doubles A. H. Fyzee and Ramaswami beat Degomar and Flaquer 3—6, 7 —5, 11—9, B—lo, 6—4.
