MEETING OF BOARD. A meeting of the board of the Y.W.C.A. was held at the hostel on Thursday, July 13. There were present: Mesdames E. A. Walker (in the chair), A. Ambury, W. Ambury, O. Blundell, T. C. List, C. T. Mills, A. MacDiarmid, C. H. Weston, and Misses Harrison, Hodder end Roughton. Miss Roughton reported that 31 visitors had stayed at the hostel during the month. [ The roof had been painted. Lectures had been held every Tuesday evening. Mrs. Walker had given two on home nursing, which had proved most interesting and instructive. Mrs. O. Blundell addressed the girls on the subject of "Influence,” a much appreciated lecture. The girls expressed a wish that she would again give an address later on. Nurse Castles, one of the Plunket nurses, had given an interesting demonstration and lecture on “The Care of Babies.” A visit from Miss Birch (national field secretary) is expected in August; it is hoped there will be a rally of girls to meet her. The secretary was asked to write thanking Messrs. Inch and Bellringer for their generous gift to the hostel of material for painting the roof. A letter is to be written to the chairman of the Pierrots, expressing the board’s willingness to co-operate with them and to help them in every possible way in their proposed effort to raise funds for the unemployment fund. A letter is also to be written to the msn’s committee to relieve unemployment, asking if a grant of £5O from the fund could be given to the board of the Y.W.C.A., so that they could at once administer to necessitous cases, also that they should be allowed to open a depot at the hostel to receive gifts of clothing, etc., and where women in temporary need of clothing could apply for help. VICTORIA LEAGUE. A most enjoyable evening was spent at the Victoria League room on Wednesday night, when Mrs. C. H. Burgess, president of the League, was at home to members. There was a large attendance. The room was most tastefully decorated with pink camelias. berries and maidenhair fern, and was arranged Hi such a way that thq guests could mingle freely. Dancing took place on the roof garden, which presented a pretty picture, brought about by a beautiful arrangement of many colored / lights. , During the evening songs were rendered by Mrs. Mowlem and Mrs. Boyle, and a pianoforte solo by Mrs. Hugh Frasier. Dr. J. R. Purdy gave I several very enjoyable elocutionary items, which were much appreciated. Supper terminated a very pleasant evening. At the usual fortnightlj’ meeting of the Victoria League, to be held in the room on Monday night, Archdeacon Evans will give an address on “Patriotism.” interspersed with readings by Mrs. Evans. Musical items will be given by Mrs. F. J. Frederic, Misses Abbott, Cooper and Sutherland.
