PATTERSON LOSES DOUBLES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, July 12. In the semi-final of the mixed doubles, Wood and Mdlle. Lenglen beat Tindellgreen and Mrs. Yorke, 6—2, 6—2. Lycett and Miss Ryan beat Gilbert and Mrs. M'Nair, G—2, 6—l. In the final, O’Hara Wood and Mdlle. Lenglen defeated Lycett and Miss Ryan, 6 6—3. In the final for the men’s doubles, Anderson and Lycett beat Patterson and O’Hara Wood, 3—6, 7—9, 6—4, 6—3 (?). This match was the most thrilling in the whole meeting. Anderson and Lycett started indifferently, Patterson and Wood winning the first set comfortably. They led s—l5 — 1 in the second set, but their opponents recovering led at 6—5 and 7 though they eventually lost the set. The winners were easily superior in the third and fourth sets, Wood falling away from his usual accuracy overhead. The fifth set was a determined struggle marked by hard hitting, fireworks and volleying. Lycett played the game of his life and Wood the weakest. The victory of Anderson and Lycett was most popular with the crowd. The last three sets were marked with such dramatic changes that they were watched with breathless interest. Anderson’s play was a mixture of early indifference and later brilliance, while Lycett, in the concluding stages, worked as one inspired. Apart from his weak service, Wood’s cleanness overhead was a tower of strength. In the ladies’ final, Mdlle. Lenglen and Miss Ryan beat Miss M‘Kain and Mrs. Stocks, —O, 6—4. Received July 13, .5.5 p.m. London, July 12. At Wimbledon, in the final of the all England Plate Marton beat Wertheim 6—2, 6—2.

Mrs. Youle, the tennis player, is a daughter of Spofforth, the cricketer.
