BRAVERY AT A FIRE.
CONSTABLE DISPLAYS HEROISM TRIBUTE TO HIS EFFORTS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. At an inquest concerning the death of Nathaniel Hayden, the victim of the Are in Grey Street on the morning of June 13, the Coroner (Mr. J. E. Wilson S.M.) complimented Constable Wjilaon on the part he took in endeavoring to save the deceased. Constable W'ilson stated in evidence that with a fireman he went into an upstairs room full of smoke. The fireman was overcome and the constable assisted him. down a ladder. Witness entered another room in search of deceased, but was hhnpelf overcome, not remembering being carried out. Subsequently witness again entered the house. The Coroner said: “You went into-.a burning building on three occasions, at the risk of your own life. For a very long time I have had a great conception for the deeds of members of the police force, which is a force the public should be proud of, and I feel that by your efforts on the morning of the fire you have addted something to the honors list of the force. I will make special representation to fte Minister of Justice concerning your brare act, which I trust will be suitably recognised.”
