SCHOOL SPORTS.
TEACHERS ORGANISE A PROMISING MOVEMENT. ->«. A representative and enthusiastic meeting of primary school teachers was held in the Hawera Main School on Saturday last. Mr. Lyall was voted to the chair. He explained that the object of the meeting was to discuss the advisableness of forming an association among teachers to control school sport in all its branches throughout Taranaki. Mr. Furrie (Stratford) said that the football enthusiasts among the teachers deserved great credit for the present organisation of the game, but in his opinion something in the shape of a representative body was needed, with an executive consisting of teachers from all parts of the province. He had been associated with similar organisations elsewhere, and could speak for their effectiveness. This body would deal not only with football, but could aim at a monster sports meeting at which every primary school in the province might be represented. Several speakers supported Mr. Furrie, Mr. Mason saying that the question had been discussed informally for several years, and he considered the time opportune for the formation of such an association as had been outlined. '
Mr. Furrie moved, and Mr. Adlam seconded, that a Primary Schools’ Rugby Football Union and Sports Association be formed in Taranaki.—Carried unanimously. The following officers were elected: — President, Mr. G. A. Lyall; vice-presidents, Messrs. L. J. Furrie, R. C. Adlam, G. Pope a*d F. Mason. Mr. Linehan was appointed secretary. The executive elected comprised the president and vice-presidents, Messrs. Henderson (Hawera), Larcombe (Auroa), Bicheno (Eltham), Bocock (Toko), R. Thomas (Stratford), Swinburne (Waitara), and the teachers’ representative on the Taranaki Rugbj' Union—seven to form a quorum. Messrs. Furrie and Linehan were appointed a sub-committee to communicate with similar associations in New Zealand and to submit rules, etc., to a meeting of the executive, Mr. Linehan to be convenor. TARANAKI v. WANGANUI. Messrs. Lyall, Furrie and Adlam were appointed selectors for a Taranaki school representative team to go to Wanganui if the match can be arranged. A final selection will be made from the following, who will meet in Eltham on a date to be fixed and play a try-out match against a team picked \from Eltham and Stratford: McCullum (Opunake), Bailey (Tawhiti), Davies (Stratford), Taunt (Central, New Plymouth), Riley (Pihama), Fletcher (N.P.H.S.), Fookes, (N.P.H.S.?, Doyle (Kaponga), Crofts (Stratford), Cooper (Eltham), Goodwin (Pihama), Spiers (Fitzroy), Yorke (N.P.H.S.), Sutton (Manaia Convent), Greenhill (Auroa), Collins (Stratford), R.
