BANDITS IN CHINA.
JAPANESE RESIDENTS IN DANGER. WARNING FROM TOKIO. i By Telegraph.—Press A san.—Copyright. Received July 9, 5.5 p.m. Tokio, July 7. Japan has warned the Peking Government that owing to the danger of bandits to Japanese residents in Chientao that if China fails to do her duty and protect them necessity might compel reluctant Japan to send troops to the affected region. Received July 9, 5.5 p.m. Pekin, July 8. The Chinese Government has promised Japan that she will protect the Japanese to the utmost in Chientao, although the military is admittedly unable to control the situation. Wu Pei Fit’s best division mutinied at Paotingfu, demanding payment. Rex, the Premier, called a meeting of Allied Ministers and asked permission to postpone payment of the Boxer indemnities. The Ministers have referred the matter to their respective Governments. At Paotingfu loyal troops quelled the mutiny among Wu Pei Fu’s troops after an all night battle.
