MISHAP TO A STEAMER.
THE NAUTICAL INQUIRY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, July 7. The nautical inquiry into the accident to the Cygnet, which struck a rock on May 4 while on the Lyttelton-Kai-koura run, was held to-day. In returning the finding of the court the president said the accident was caused by the mate steering the vessel for about ten minutes while having temporarily lost sight of the coast. The course of the vessel at that time was affected by the north-east wind. The court considered the mate’s certificate should not 'be dealt with, as it did not hold him altogether blameworthy, and the certificate would be returned. Captain Murray was free from blame.
