MANAGING THE RAILWAYS.
IMPROVED METHODS AIMED AT A BOARD OF EXPERTS. AGENT IN EACH ISLAND. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The new departure in the management of the railways formed the subject of a statement in the House this afternoon by the Minister for Railways (Hon. D. H. Guthrie). Mr. Guthrie said it had been known for some time that the Government intended to appoint a board of three members to assist the general manager of railways with expert, advice on many of the problems he had to solve. It had also ibeen decided to appoint two commercial agents, one stationed in the North Island and the other in the South Island. It was hoped this arrangement would, relieve the general manager of a great deal of detailed work and give him more frequent opportunity of coming into contact with the public. Four of the appointments had practically been made, but the fifth had not yet been on.
