NEW MAGAZINES.

The Red Magazine, the popular fortnightly, continues to provide its numerous readers with a wide and varied range of fiction. The current issue, May 12, includes among its contributors James Barr, Wallace Irwin, Henry Holt. Edmund Snell and Ethel M. Dell, all favorites with New Zealand readers. The illustrations by well known artist-s assist considerably in making the Red one of the most sought after of the English fiction magazines. In the Novel Magazine. May issue, G. E. Studdy, the creator of “That Dog,” tells some stories of “That Dog” and others. The quaint cover is one of Studdy’s best efforts and will no doubt be treasured by the artist’s many admirers. The fiction in the novel is particularly good. Eden Phillpotts is represented by a fine story, “The Woodstock Plate,” whilst other contributors include Howell Evans, A. G. Greenwood, and W. L. George. Another little masterpiece of O. Henry. “The Marquis and Sally,” also appears. Fashion For All, June issue, contains as supplements two smart dresses and a jumper pattern together with a double sheet transfer embroidery design. In addition, instructions are given for making a smart crochet dress. All the designs are illustrated on the cover in color. Fashions for Ab contains an eight page fashion supple ment in photogravure illustrating iE>v coat frocks, fine hats from Paris, dainty lingerie, etc., and many articles of interest. A journal that few homes can do without.

Of all fashion journals dealing with requirements for children, Harmsworth’s Children's Dress is one of the most popular, and deservedly so, for each issue contains a wealth of information for parents and others who plan and make garments for the little folks. May issue is specially good. It contains five free patterns of costumes and frocks and a tunic suit for a little boy. There are also instructions for knitting in silk a pretty dress for a girlie four to five years old. Special pages arc devoted to street wear garments, fresh ideas in coats, frocks and suits, da\ and night wear for children and special notes for mothers.
