RUSSIAN FAMINE FUND.
The first meeting of the Mayor’s Committee in connection with the above mentioned fund was held on Thursday evening, the Mayor (Mr. F. E. Wilson) presiding, when the treasurer (Mr. N. K. MacDiannid) reported that the sum in hand amounted to £340 4s 3d. He was instructed to remit the amount to the Minister of Internal Affairs to be cabled Home, free of cost. Mrs. E. Dockrill was thanked for having organised the street collection, and requested to convey the thanks of the committee to the lady collectors. A very hearty vote of thanks was accorded the Press, both papers having given liberal publicity to the committee’s effort, and refusing payment for advertising Miss Thorpe’s lecture. The following is a complete list of the amounts handled by the committee. Further sums may be sent to the newspapers:—
