MAGISTRATE’S COURT
NEW PLYMOUTH SITTING. A sitting of ‘the New Plymouth ' Magistrate’s Court wa«s held yesterday morning, Mr. A. M- Mowlem, S.M., presiding. UNDEFENDED CASES. Judgment was given for plaintiff in the following cases:—Thomas and Johnson v. Liegeamundt Schuetz, £22 lie 9d (coats £4 16s); Frederick John Darling v. John Black, £ll 17s 5d (costs £2 14s fid) ; Jellyman and Forbes v. J. Blaek, £3O 3s (costs £6 3s 6d); Newton King, Ltd. v. F. G. Smith, £2O Ils 4d (costs £3 Ils); Arthur Henry Bosworth v. Gordon Jeffries, £9 12s 6d (costs £1 10« s fid); Mary E. Rielly v. JBoulton, 10s fid (costs 8e); Mary E. Rielly v. Leslie Rielly, £27 10s (costs £2 Ils). In the case of T. C. List v. G. E. Clout, defendant, who did not appear, was ordered to pay the amount due ( £9 7s 6d) forthwith, in default 10 days’ imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended for 7 daysWEIGHTS AND MEASURES. A number of cases were brought against tradesmen for having in their possession and use unstamped and unjust meaeuras and weights. The informations were laid by the New Plymouth inspector of factories, and were dealt with as follows: — F. S. Butler, S. Boivin, John Hale, L. Richards and A. Skipper were each fined 10s (costs 7s) for having unstamped scales. F. W. Harrison and G- Tweedie (trading as Harrison and Tweedie), for possessing unstamped scales were fined 10s (costs 7s), and for having unjust scales were fined £1 (costs 7s). G. P. Johnson, for having an unjust and unstamped balance, was fined £2 (costs 7s) for using the unjust balance and for having such in his possession was fined £1 (costs 7s). Ah Ping, for having in his possession and use unstamped scales and weights was fined 10a (costs 7s). All the scales and measures are automatically forfeited under the provisions of the Act. The Magistrate intimated, that in treating the cases as technical breaches of the law, he hoped no one would come to the conclusion that other offences would be similarly dealt with. People | who used scales and measures in their ■ businesses must realise that they were j under the obligation to see that they were properly stamped. OTHER CASE'S. Albert Loveridge, for failure to send his child to school, was fined £1 (costs 7s). Dan Le C. Morgan was fined £1 (costs 7s) for allowing a motor car to stand unlighted at night in Robe Street.
