PREPARING THE ROLLS.
THE TARANAKI ELECTORATE. WORK WELL FORWARD. A sign that the general election is approaching is provided by the preliminary work of checking the rolls, adding new names and deleting others, rectifying addresses, and similar work which is now being taken in hand all over the Dominion. In the Taranaki electorate the clerk of the Magistrate’s Court at New Plymouth (Mr. Adams) is the registrar of electors, and he informed a Daily News reporter yesterday that the work in this electorate is now well in hand. In New Plymouth the postmen are undertaking the work of leaving the necessary forms for electors and collecting the forms when filled in. In this work they are under the jurisdiction of the chief postmaster (Mr. Bree). In country districts the work is being done by the local postmasters, whilst in some places, where access is difficult and where there are rural deliveries, delivery is made by post. The work in New Plymouth has been In progress for about a fortnight. The eastern side of the town as far back as the Boys’ High School, and excluding Vogeltown, has been covered to date, and it is expected that the remaining portion of the town will be practically covered in another two weeks. The registrar pointed out that if electors are in doubt as to what electorate they are now in since the slight alteration of boundaries, a good rule to work on is that the Taranaki electorate now practically coincides with the TaranaJti county boundaries. Those in charge of the work are anxious to enlist the co-operation of all electors in returning forms promptly. So far they are well forward, and the task is nearer completion than in most electorates.
