The Governor-General’s Speech foreshadowed rigid economy in the public service and administration generally, the extension of commercial aviation services, and amendments to the constitution to extend Federal powers. Although the revenue for the year will exceed the estimates, no taxation relief is indicated. Other legislation proposed includes granting representation in Parliament to the Northern Territory, an amendment -to the Arbitration Act, and the rapid jttlement of Canberra.
