TRAGEDY IN TUNNEL.

PEOPLE SWEPT OFF TRAIN. MANY VICTIMS CRUSHED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn —Copyright. Received June 28, 10.20 pun. Berlin, June 27. A tragedy attended Dr. Rathenau’s funeral. A train crowded with spectators, including many workmen standing on the footboards, was traversing a tunnel, when it met a train carrying long girders, and travelling in the opposite direction. The girders caught the sides of the first train carriages, crashing through the woodwork, and swept off hundreds of passengers on to the line between the train. Most terrible scenes followed in the semidarkness. Many shrieking victims were crushed and others were seized with panic. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
