EDUCATION BOARD.
NOMINATION OF MEMBERS. TWO WARDS CONTESTED. Nominations for one member to represent each of the south, central, north and urban wards of the 'Taranaki Education District on the Education Board closed yesterday, the following being the names of those nominated:— South: Mr. H. J. Eaves (elected unopposed). Central: Mr. H. Trimble and Mr. F. H. Sims. North: Mr. F. Hoskin and Mr. H. Dempsey. ° New Plymouth Urban: Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P. (elected unopposed.) The other board members, viz., Messrs. R. Masters, M.P. (Central), R. J. Deare (Urban), P. J. H. White (North), and A. Lees (South) were elected last year and did not retire by rotation this year. There will be an election in the central and north wards. In the central ward, the sitting member is opposed by Mr. F. H. Sims, of Ongarue, in the Ohura district, who is a member of the Ohura County Council, and has had long experience in school committees, though not a committeeman at present. He has always taken a lot of interest in educational matters. Mr. Hector Dempsey, who is standing against Mr. Frank Hoskin, in the north ward, is well known as a keen educationalist, having been for many years headmaster of the Central School, New Plymouth. Those entitled to vote for board members must be members of a school committee. In wards where elections are necessary, the secretary of the Education Board will forward voting papers to each committeeman, and these must be returned by July 19. The voting papers will be counted on August 3, and the results then gazetted.
