THE LIBERAL PARTY.
MR. STATHAM’S ACTION. CAUSE OF THE BREACH. By Telegraph.-—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. When seen to-day, Mr. Statham con-'-firmed the statement of Mr. Wilford- He declined, however, to discuss the reason tor the break. It is considered probable that the breach came to a climax over’ the failure to complete and publish the, party platform in time for the Dunedin North by-election. Some progress had been made with drawing up of the party platforr* which was to be submitted to the party early in the aeaaion, but thia process evidently disclosed a wide difference of opinion. The long delay in .publishing the programme is held to have seriously handicapped the party’s candidate at the byelection, and the split has followed. It is expected that the National Pro- j greseive Moderate Labor Party, fanner- J ly led by Mr. Statham, will resume M S j separate body. As a matter of fact ito I organisation was never completely | merged in that of its temporary Maio* ciate.
