THE WORLD FLIGHT.
EXPERIENCE OVER VESUVIUS. NEARLY CHOKED BY SMOKE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received June 27, 11.45 p.m. London. June 27. Major Blake telegraphs from Brindisi: “I have arrived here from Naples, travelling via Foggia, in order to avoid the mountains as far as possible on the way. We encircled Vesuvius, flying through dense clouds of sulphurous smoke, which nearly choked us. We were badly bumped when flying oyer the crater, at times rising and falling five or six hundred feet. We crossed the Appenines at a height of ten thousand feet. The machine is flying well, and we are all fit and glad to be moving at last.”—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
