BIG “SOCCER” MATCH.

‘THE AUSTRALIANS v. TARANAKI. ARRIVAL OF THE VISITORS. The Australian Association football team arrived in New Plymouth last night and there was a large attendance of the public to greet the visitors on arrival of the mail train. The Fourth Battalion (Wellington Regiment) Band was in attendance and played the Australians to the Imperial Hotel. The players, sixteen in number, assembled on the verandah and Mr. G. Roper, in a short speech, thanked the people for attending in such large numbers. Mr. Morgan, manager of the Australian team, returned thanks for the cordial reception. The Australians then gave their war cry. To-day the Australians will be entertained at the Victoria League rooms at 10 a.m., -when the Mayor will formally welcome them. Afterwards they will partake of morning tea at the invitation of some members of the Victoria League. New Plymouth “Soccer” friends are asked to be in attendance at this function and to stay to the morning teaThe Australians will afterwards be taken to places of interest and in the afternoon they will be motored round the district. The match against Taranaki will take place on the sports ground at Pukekura Park to-morrow afternoon, and after the game the teams will meet at dinner. The Australians leave for Auckland on Thursday morning. The teams for tomorrow are:— AUSTRALIA. J. B. Bryant (3), W- Mcßride (11), D. Cumberford (5), S. A. Storey (14), A. Gibb (captain) (10), C. Shenton (13), W- Dane (7), J. Cumberford (6), G. W. Brown (2), W. Maunder (.12), T. Thompson (15). TARANAKI. Goal, Johnston; backs, Jones, Barker; halfbacks, Worthington, Howeth, Pooch; forwards, P. Thompson, Woodhead (right wing), Fitzgerald (centre), Freakley, Davis (left wing). Emergencies: Shepherd, Butler, Belchin, Piper.
