EAST COAST RAILWAY.
'WORK BEING EXPEDITED. ONE SECTION NEARLY COMPLETED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, Last Night. The Minister of Public Works (Hon. J. G. Coates) stated to-night that now the sleepers are to hand progress will be made on the Eskdale section of the East Coast railway. The laying of the track will be proceeded with almost immediately, and a locomotive will be on the West Shore section in three weeks. Mr. Coates said it was hoped to have the plate-laying to Eskdale completed in four months, and the line nanaea over to the Railway Department in about six months. In reference to the Napier-Gisborne section of the railway, the Minister stated that since 1910 the following amounts had been expended: Napier northwards. £183,200; Wairou northwards, £15,675; Gisborne nortn- ■ wards, £237,397; a total to date of £436,634.
