BOWLING.
THE STRATFORD CLUB. THE ANNUAL MEETING. I ' The annual meeting of the Stratford Bowling Club was held on Thursday night, the president (Mr. p. Skoglund) presiding over on attendance of about twenty members. The annual report, stated, inter alia: The past season has been a very successful one. ( and for the first time the club succeeded in winning the banner. In banner matches the club suffered only one defeat, losing a match to Inglewood. The finals for the banner were played at Stratford, the visitors expressing themselves as highly satisfied with the green. During the season the green was in splendid order, a striking tribute to the work of the green warden (Mr. Hanis) and to the caretaker (Mr. W. Jones). The club ■ lost a most useful member in Mr. Harris, and the committee wish to place on record hte most valuable services to the club. After Mr. Harris’s retirement, Mr. J. S. McDonald successfully carried out the duties of green warden. The following resignations were received: Messrs. J. H. Ashton, D. Butchart. W. Christie, A. N. Davies, W r Harris, W. E. Jones, T. R. Julian, W. Lovett, W. J. Roche, J. Sinclair, T. Sullivan, F. Veale, J. F. Young, W. Kerr. Notwithstanding the fact that the club lost a good <many members during the season, the club's finances are in a healthy condition, the balance of assets over liabilities being almost the same as the previous season. More members taking an active part in the game are required, and as more normal conditions arrive it is to be hoped this satisfactory result will be obtained. The results of the club competitions are as 10Ilows: Senior chaunpionship, A. D. McPherson ; colts’ championship, A. H. Hunt; Easter pairs, C. Jackson and A. H. Hunt; run-ners-up, S. M. Porritt and G. Finlay. In addition to the above, a progressive pairs tournament was held for trophies presented by Messrs. Deig-Scott and Woodhead, the winners being Messrs. C. Jackson and C. B. Walsh. The thanks of the club are due to Messrs. Gaffaney, Woodhead, and Deig-Scott for donations of trophies for the various competitions. In conclusion, the president thanked the members of the club and the committee, and especially the hon. secretary (Mr. Carman) for their very active and loyal support during his term as president. The balance-sheet disetosed the following position :— Receipts: Members’ subscriptions £l9O, locker fees £5 2s 6d, opening day 10s, progressive pairs £5 10s, hire of pavilion 10s, championship nomination fees £3, Easter pairs nominations £6 10s, buttons 2s, P.O. Savings Bank £6 13s 7d; bank overdraft £553 18s 7d, less cash in hand, £6 10s 3d. Total, £763 6s sd. Expenditure: Bank overdraft £586 12s Bd, wages £67 Bs, maintenance (soil, manure, etc.) £l3 6s 7d, stationer}’, stamps and advertising £4 8s 6d, interest and bank charge £46 3s, rates and insurance £l2 Bs, honorarium £lO, Taranaki Centre £3 Is 9d, opening day £4 4s 6d, telephone £4 17s lid, medals £7, sundries (roll of honor board, etc.) £3 15s 6d. Liabilities: Bank overdraft, £553 18s 7d, Easter pairs nominations £6 10s, sundry creditors £9 6s sd, balance in favor of club £213 Is 3d. Total £782 16s 3d. Assets: Land and buildings £720, furniture (depreciation £5, additions £5) £5O, O-s subscriptions, £6 6s, cash In hanc’, £6 10s 3d. ' The report and balance-sheet were adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: President, Mr. Q. Smart; vicepresident, Mr. Jy S. Lyons; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. D. Carman (re-elected unanimously) ; <hon. green warden, Mr. J. S. McDonald; hon. auditor, Mr. J. C. Alien (reelected) ; committee, Messrs. C. W. Martin, .1. W. McMillan, G. Finlay, G. T. Walters, and H. Sanderson; selection committee, Messrs. J. S. McDonald and J. S. Lyons; delegates to lie centre, the president and Mr. J. W. McMillan. GENERAL, The Avon and Pihama Clubs wrote conratulating the club on winning the championship banner. The secretary was voted the usual Honorarium of £5. A motion that the subscription of £3 3s be reducible by 15 per cent, if paid by Decomber 31 was lost after discussion. A recommendation to the delegates to the centre to support a resolution to hold the meetings in a more central position in Taranaki was carried unanimously. A further recommendation to hold a North v. South match -was also carried. It was decided t-o hold a club Easter pairs tournament as usual. Donations were offered as follows: Mr. G. Whillams £2 2s, Mr. E. H. Carryer £1 Is, Mr. G. Finlay £1 Is, Mr. G. Smart the usual championship medal, the donors being heartily thanked. Votes of thanks were accorded to the ladies, the Press, hon. auditor, and the outgoing committee. The prizes won during the year were presented by the president. At the close of the ordinary business members partook of hot beef-tea provided by the secretary (Mr. Carman), and refreshments. Later, a short toast list was honored as follows: “The King,” president-elect, Mr. G. Smart; ex-president, Mr. P. Skoglund; vicepresident and selector, Mr. J. S. McDonald; prize-winners (responded to by Mr. G. Finlay and H. P. Hunt) ; trophy donors (Mr. Whillams and Mr. Woodhead).
