In the elections for the Southern Ireland Parliament 118 members have so far been elected* The state of parties is:— Pro-Treaty ...70 Pro-Treaty Labor ...... 15 Anti-Treaty 33 Received June 22, 7.55 p.m. London, June 21. Mr. de Valera, in a statement made at Dublin referring to the elections, says:— “By a threat of an immediate renewal of the infamous war, our people, harassed and weary of the fearful chaos, have by a majority voted as England wanted, but their hearts and aspiration are not changed. If Ireland is not free she will never be at rest or genuinely reconciled to England.” London, June 21. James Robinson (Republican) was defeated for Waterford, where Mr. Brugha was elected. Mr. Gavin Duffy was elected for South Dublin. A blacksmith, named M*Keown, was elected for Longford. REPUBLICANS IRRITATED. London, June 21. Two special constables cycling near Keady, in Antrim, and a farmer who got in the line of firing, were shot dead by gunmen who were concealed behind a hedge. The Irish extremists are taking their defeat in the election badly, and fiery speeches were delivered at the graveside of Wolfe Tone. Mr. Mellowes dedared it might be necessary to prevent a sub. version of tne republic with their lives. In view of Labor’s election successes Irish students of political movements are already discussing the prospects of the eventual formation of a Labor Government on the Australian model. SINN FEINERS INTERNED. London, June 20. The Ulster Government is interning the recently rounded-up Sinn Feiners on board a ship at Belfast Lough. PROTESTS AGAINST OUTRAGES. London, June 21. The Roman Catholic hierarchy has issued a manifesto denouncing antiCatholic and anti-Protestant outrages in Ulster and South Ireland, respectively. It calls the people to aid -the Government in bringing the criminals in justice. It says the primary duty the Government is to crush the lawless elements.
