COMMERCIAL.
iJJNDON MARKETS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received June 21, 5.5 p.m. London, June 20. Wheat.—Cargoes are steady, the collapse of the New York exchange having made shippers cautious of fresh commitments. Four thousand tons from Anglo-Egyptian brought 51s. Wool.—At the sales there was a better selection and brisk competition all round. Merinos are quite equal to May levels, there being very good Continental competition between the demand from Yorkshire. Crossbreds are firmer than they were last week. THE INDIAN LOAN. London. June 20. The underwriters receive 63 per cent, of the Indian loan. HIDES, CALFSKINS AND SHEEPSKINS. Messrs. L. A. Nolan and Co. held their usual monthly sale of the above at their New Plymouth store on Tuesday. There was a good attendance of buyers, tanners and exporters both being well represented. The catalogue was larger than usual, and all lines were sold. Hides.—Calfskins met keen competition, sound lines realising 17%d to 17 3-8 d per lb., which is a considerable advance. Heavyweight ox and cow were easier, in sympathy with other markets. Medium weights also showed a slight decline. Lightweights were about par. Kips and yearlings were considerably easier. Sheepskins are showing an improvement, all woolly lines (dry or salted) meeting good competition at advanced prices. Tallow was in demand, and sold well at prices well up to last sale’s rates.
