IRISH ELECTIONS.

SOME FURTHER RETURNS. SUPPORT FOR TREATY. NO DOUBT OF FEELING. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received June 20, 9.50 p.m. London, June 20. < The returns of the Irish elections are being published slowly. They include mid-Dublin, where the Lord Mayor (Mr. O’Neill) and Aiderman Byrne (Independents) were elected outright. In South Dublin, Mr. McArthy (pro-Treaty) was elected outright. The fate of the others, including Countess Marckeviez, depends upon later counts. So far Dublin has voted 72,288 for the treaty and 10,028 against. Dublin defeats include Mr. McGrath (a Minister and proTreaty) and Mrs. Clarke, widow of the rebels’ leader, executed in 1916 (anti- , Treaty). The Daily Chronicle’s Dublin correspondent says the lesson of the election is that proportional representation defeated the Collins-de Valera pact, which intended to prevent the treaty being made the issue at the elections. On the contrary, the treaty has been the real issue with the country, which, despite the uncontested elections, has declared its will unmistakably. IRISH LEGISLATION. TASK FOR HOUSE OF COMMONS. Received June 20, 5.5 p.m. London, June 19. Mr. Chamberlain, in the House of Commons, said that at the moment it seemed inevitable that during the autumn session it would be necessary to consider legislation in regard to Ireland. THE BELFAST FIRES. Received June 20, 9.50 p.m. London, June 19. Belfast ratepayers are confronted with 131 compensation claims, aggregating £131,000, for damage by incendiaries. A GIRL MURDERED. Received June 20, 7.45 p.m. London, June 19. Margaret Livingston, a twelve-year-old daughter of the postmaster at Ardlogher, Cavan, was shot dead by men who raided her father’s house for arms. The murderers escaped in a motor-ear.
