DEBASING SPORT.
TO MAKE MONEY. By Telegraph.—Press Aasn.—Copyright. London, June 19. The Northern Football League rejected the proposal by Oldham and Wigan to delete the standing order which necessitates a residential qualification of two years for colonials desirous of playing in English clubs. The council strongly opposed the deletion on the grounds that it was uusportsman - tike to take players from a. friendly association like New South Wales. The Athletic News points out that results have entirely justified the Nelson Cricket Club’s financial plunge in engaging McDonald. Already the Nelson dub has taken £1127 gate in five home matches, whereas the total income in 1921, its best season, was £1352. McDonald’s presence in the side creates a stir wherever Nelson appears. He has not yet played to a gate of less than £lOO.
