It is understood that the Federal and State Governments are instituting inquiries with a view to reopening the Newcastle steel works, in the direction of supplying steel for the North Sydney bridge and rails for the uniform gauge line. MOUNT MORGAN TAXATION. Brisbane, June 20. The ?vlc nt Morgan Company has appealed to the High Court against the decision of the Full Court in the taxation case. The appeal will be heard in Sydney at the end of August. DANGEROUS RIFLE RANGE. Sydney, June 20. A portion of the Randwick rifle range has been closed by the military authorities, owing to a bullet having been fo.uad embedded in the woodwork of a house situated at the rear of the targets. The secretary of the National Rifle Association has been instructed to protest. NEW STATES MOVEMENT. Sydney, June 20. An All Australia conference of delegates from the respective new States movement will be held in Albury on July .3. Rockhampton, Geraldton and Albany are sending representatives. REDUCED WAGES ACCEPTED. Syd. Lev, Jun: 20. Over 2000 employees at Canberi a have decided to accept the award reducing wages one shilling and extending the week by four hours. The men’s representatives state that, owing to unemployment in the cities, it is impossible to expect support in an industrial conflict. TREATY RATIFICATION. Melbourne, June 20. Mr. Wughes has announced that Parliament will be asked to ratify the Washington Treaty as soon as possible after meeting. The question of limiting naval quotas for parts of the Empire was a matter for the Imperial Conference.
