AUSTRALIAN NEWS.

MOTOR BUSINESS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Melbourne, June 19. Mr. Rodgers denies that Wolseley Motors has abandoned the Australian assembling factory because of the Customs Department. He states that, during ihe passage of the Tariff Bill, concessions wore made on the representations of a firm who were permitted to import parts at a reduced duty from places outside the Empire, provided they were assembled into chassis and not used for repair work. A deposit of £lO,OOO was not asked, but a security bond as usual required. THE SUGAR AGREEMENT. Melbourne, June I'9. The Federal Cabinet will meet to-day to discuss matters arising out of Mr. Hughes’ tour of the Commonwealth. It is thought possibly the sugar agree-m'-nt will be renewed on condition the retail price is reduced from 6d to 4%d when the Commonwealth has been recouped for the losses incurred in connection with war time importations.
