MAGISTRATE’S COURTTHEFT OF A WHIP. (From Our Own Correspondent J June 19. A sitting of the Magistrate's Court was held at Eltham to-day before Mr. A. M. Mowlem, S.M. William Kendall pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing a stockwhip, valued at 10s, from H. V. Ricketts, of Kaponga. Constable Anderson said Ricketts had left a saddled horse standing with the whip attached to the saddle. Accused came along under the influence of liquor and removed the whip. He had later admitted the theft. Nothing was previously known Main»t the accused.
The magistrate said that drunkenness was no excuse. Accused was admitted to probation for six months and was ordered to pay costs £1 4s, a prohibition. order being taken out against him.
BY-LAW CASES. . R. B. Grav and W. G. Reid were each fined 10s with costs 7s for driving motor cars on the wrong side of the street. For leaving motor cars in the street at night without lights A. Condy and D. Malone were each fined 10s with costs 7s, and J. Kelleher was convicted and discharged. For allowing a bull to be at large on a public road J. W. Burke was fined £l, with costs 7s.
CIVIL CASES. Judgment for plaintiff by default was given in the following undefended cases: Wilson’s Motor Supplies, Ltd. v. C. H. Chevannes, £3 5s (costs £1 4s fid) Eltham County Council v. L. Babington, £3B 14s 5d (costs £2 9s Gd) ; same v. Xavier Wyss, £2O 14s Gd (costs £4 3s).
