THE REVENUE LAST MONTH. INFLUENCE OF THE WEATHER. Reporting on the working of the New Plymouth tramways during May the engineer states the revenue shows a slight decrease as compared with May, 1921, the decrease being £l5 Is 7d. The passengers carried increased by 30 only, the figures being May, 19*21, 151,320, and May, 1922, 151,350. “This slight decrease in revenue is easily traceable to weather conditions, which affects the pleasure travelling public considerably, whilst as near as one can gauge the ordinary traffic has not varied to any extent, if anything it has increased,” proceeds the report. ‘ The maintenance work in connection with this department is quite normal, but the. weather conditions have hindered track repair work considerably. The work in connection with the overhaul and alteration to car No. 3 lias been delayed somewhat, due to the staff being required on more urgent work. This car, however, is now practically completed and will receive the finishing coat or varnish during this week. The new winter time* table was brought into operation on May 2 and ifc working quite satisfactorily. The 'replacement of Strandon for Eliot Street section appears to 'be an advantage and is apparently appreciated.” , The records for the month aie.
