hotel destroyed.

By Telegraph.—Press Association. Ashburton, June 19. The Canterbury Hotel at Methven, a two-storied building of about forty rooms, was completely destroyed by fire early this morning. Seventeen persons in the building escaped in little more than their night clothes. The insured amount is unknown. The licensee and lessee is Mr. James M'Taggart. The hotel is jointly owned by the Manning Company and D. Neil, both of Christchurch.
