, CLAIM FOR DAMAGES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Hamilton, June 17A civil action to recover £2OOO damages alleged to be due to negligence, waa commenced in the Supreme Court, before Mr. Justice Herdman and a jury. The plaintiffs were Elsie S. Seiver and another, the defendants Ellis and Burnand. The case arose out of damage done by a fire to plaintiff’s land near Ongarue, plaintiffs alleging that the fires were caused by sparks from defendants’ bush tram engines. The defence was a denial of responsibility, or alternatively that, if responsible, the damages were grossly exaggerated. The case is proceeding. SEISMOGRAPHS WANTED. Wellington, June 17. That close watch must be kept on the earthquakes in the Taupo district and on the migration of their centres, is the conelutsion reached by the experts who have just returned from investigating on the spot. They state definitely that this is an urgent matter, and recommend the use of seismographs and the sending of an observer into the field as soon as possible to continue the investigation. The investigation was conducted, by Dr- C. E. Adame, Government astronomer and seismologist, Mr. P. C. Morgan, director of the geological survey, and Professor E. Marsden, professor of physics, Victoria University College.
