EX-KAISER’S POVERTY.

INCOME FROM HIS MEMOIRS. NO SENSATIONS PROMISED. By Solegraplt.—7. as Assn.—Copyright. Received June 18, 5.5 p.m. London, June 17* The Daily Chronicle’s Berlin correspondent states that though the price for the Kaiser’s memoirs is a record figure, it is only a quarter of what the Royal exile wanted. The American syndicate paid 225,000 dollars for the world’s rights, excepting German-speaking countries. The fact is the ex-Kaiser is two years late, and the failure of the Crown Prince’s book, for which thirty thousand dollars were paid, emphasises this fact. If carefullj'’ invested the ex-Kaiser’s 225,000 dollars will bring in £2BOO annually, but the ex-Kaiser is living at the rate of £lO,OOO a year and is in financial straits, his poverty forcing him to press for a remittance from the Prussian Government, from whom he has already received sixty million marks. The large price for the book raises the question of taxes Wilhelm must pay to the Prussian Government. Thus far he has paid no taxes. The ex-Kaiser’s book was written by Herr Eugene Zimmerman, a fire-eating leader writer of the Lokal Anzieger. It will be interesting, but not sensational, as it has been carefully edited and reedited. It covers the period from Bismarck’s dismissal to the world war.— Aus.-N.Z- Cable Assn.
