FRIESIAN CATTLE.

MANGATOKI DEMONSTRATION. The second demonstration under the auspices of the Taranaki branch of the New Zealand Friesian Association was given at Mr. Marx’s farm at Mangatoki yesterday by Mr. Geo. Aitchison; hen. official demonstrator to the New Zealand Association. There were upwards of 100 people present, including the senior pupils from the Mangatoki school, and the demonstration, on similar lines to that given at Cardiff on Wednesday, was attentively followed. Mr. C. Marchant introduced Mr. Aitchison to the gathering, and in doing so expressed the hope that the demonstration would be the forerunner of many more, and that the public would learn from them to choose better animals for their herds. Mr. Marx’s cow Alcartra Clothilde Pietje, which has already this season given 23,0001b5. of milk and 8501bs. of butter-fat in eight months, was the animal chiefly used by Mr. Aitchison, who later selected an inferior cow for the purpose of showing faults and for comparison. Demonstrations were also given with Messrs. Hoskin and Perry’s cows and a champion Friesian bull. At the conclusion of Mr. Aitchison’*' address afternoon tea was served by the ladies o-f the district. Votes of thanks were accorded Mr. Aitchison for his instructive address and the ladies for providing afternoon tea.
